It is with great regret that we must announce that the National Park Service’s tall ship Friendship will not be coming to Newburyport on August 13-16. The trip to Newburyport was the highlight of Friendship's ambassadorial sails this summer.
A recent routine maintenance inspection of the ship has uncovered some structural issues that must be repaired before she sails again. These repairs are expected to take most of the summer. The staff and volunteers at Salem Maritime National Historic Site and the Essex National Heritage Commission wish to express our extreme disappointment at not being able to bring the ship to Newburyport this summer.
We are very sorry that this has occurred.
